About us

SAOS was established in 1905 to strengthen the profitability and effectiveness of Scotland’s farming and rural businesses through co-operation.

What we do

We are Scotland’s experts on farmer co-ops and food industry collaboration. We provide a range of specialist information, development and consultancy services.

Membership

We are a development organisation owned by our members. We provide a range of specialist services that our members have requested, that are not available elsewhere. Discover how we can help you.

Sharing Data

Key to our work is a firm belief that farmers should always own their data and be able to negotiate a fair value exchange when sharing that data with others.

Having developed and delivered ScotEID, a world-leading livestock traceability database using industry-owned data, SAOS understands the opportunities offered by this approach.

With the success of ScotEID, Scotland is at the forefront of animal disease management, having replaced expensive, slow and inaccurate trace systems, with one that is secure, reliable and low-cost and in which farmers never give up ownership or control of their own data.
